TOPIC: whats different between Babblebot and Speakjet?

whats different between Babblebot and Speakjet? 6 years 8 months ago #68

Both the Babblebot IC and SpeakJet IC have similar features ( and evolved through the same project ), but they do have specific differences. The Babblebot IC was originally marketed as the SoundGin IC; the Babblebot IC is a functional equivalent.

Both chips are programmed software implementations of the Microchip PIC18F IC. The SpeakJet code focuses on voice synthesis alone, and has features that allow you to store preset phrases that can be triggered with simple events. Curiously, it does not utilize allophones (smoothly blended phonemes) as the Babbble IC does.

An addition to a a more organized software model for general waveform synthesis, the Babblebot IC provides direct access to the low-level function generators and mixers, and has 6 DCOs (instead of 5 for the SpeakJet) which allows for symmetry for waveform generation.

The Babblebot IC also supports a frequency range twice that of the SpeakJet.
