TOPIC: GSTweak opens but cannot detect board

GSTweak opens but cannot detect board 4 years 8 months ago #343

Running this App on Windows 7 64bit, opens but cannot detect the board on the required coms port. Unit works ok within the Arduino software and I can download sketches no problem.

Any ideas. ?

I wonder if the incorrect txtx module is being used. Could you try to mamualy copy the 64 bit rxtx DLL up one diretoy to see if that makes a difference? I sspect the installation script might not be detecting the O/S properly.

I have the exact same problem and have not been able to solve it for months. I have been working on this for 2 days strait to no avail.

All the sketches work, the GinSing works with the Arduino, but I can't get the GStweak.jar to detect the GinSing.

When I execute GStweak.jar via command window I get one warning that the Native txrxserial dll has a different version then its supposed to.

Native Lib Version = RXTX-2.2-20081207
Java lib Version = RXTX-2.1.7

This is on a Win7 64bit machine with all critical updates.

Running latest Java JDK.

Please help!!!!!!!

FYI...I just borrowed a different Arduino board and that works fine. I was using an Arduino Android ADK board and tried the exact same setup with an Arduino UNO board and everything works as it should.

This does not solve my problem (posted earlier) I'm having with the Android ADK.

Is there a known compatability issue with the Android ADK board?

Either way at leas this and my other post should help others.

Are you using the 10 uF capacitor between reset and 5V pins? One problem with some of the Arduino clones is that the reset circuit can be triggered when the serial connection is set up by Windows. This might not be the case for the Arduino SDK, but its worth a try. Here is some related discussion:

Arduino serial reset

This excerpt was taken from the arduino Andriod SDK product page:

Automatic (Software) Reset

Rather then requiring a physical press of the reset button before an upload, the Arduino ADK is designed in a way that allows it to be reset by software running on a connected computer. One of the hardware flow control lines (DTR) of the ATmega8U2 is connected to the reset line of the ATmega2560 via a 100 nanofarad capacitor. When this line is asserted (taken low), the reset line drops long enough to reset the chip. The Arduino software uses this capability to allow you to upload code by simply pressing the upload button in the Arduino environment. This means that the bootloader can have a shorter timeout, as the lowering of DTR can be well-coordinated with the start of the upload.

This setup has other implications. When the ADK is connected to either a computer running Mac OS X or Linux, it resets each time a connection is made to it from software (via USB). For the following half-second or so, the bootloader is running on the ADK. While it is programmed to ignore malformed data (i.e. anything besides an upload of new code), it will intercept the first few bytes of data sent to the board after a connection is opened. If a sketch running on the board receives one-time configuration or other data when it first starts, make sure that the software with which it communicates waits a second after opening the connection and before sending this data.

The ADK contains a trace that can be cut to disable the auto-reset. The pads on either side of the trace can be soldered together to re-enable it. It's labeled "RESET-EN". You may also be able to disable the auto-reset by connecting a 110 ohm resistor from 5V to the reset line; see this forum thread for details.

Tried that and I am very sure it will not work on my mega adk board. For confirmation I only switched boards and it workes perfect.

Cananyone confirm tweaker runs on the mega adk for android board?

Also the old version of tweaker....forgot what it was called but ithas a Piano keyboard in the interface....that does work with themega adk.

I am using the 10uf cap....havetried several different caps of the required or similar values.....always thesame behavior.

Can anyonewith a mega adk for android bord give it a try?

I will also try cutting the trace.

When you load the PC link application on the mega ADK do you hear the voice prompting to insert the capacitor?
